Finnerty was part of the Galway Minor side that claimed the 2016 Connacht MFC title & reached the subsequent All-Ireland MFC final, losing out to Kerry. Finnerty made his senior debut for Galway, against Sligo in Rd.1 of the 2018 FBD League. He was introduced as a 2nd half sub & scored 0-01f. He also started the 2018 FBD League final vs Roscommon, scoring 0-01f. Finnerty was part of the squad for the 2019 NFL but has yet to make his debut in the league.
